| 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Dalitso S. Sulamoyo will be retiring from the |
| 3 | | Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies after 18 |
| 4 | | years of service to the organization, 16 years of which he |
| 5 | | proudly served as the organization's youngest and first African |
| 6 | | American President/CEO; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has also served as the President/CEO |
| 8 | | for two other Community Action support organizations from 2001 |
| 9 | | to 2017, which include the Illinois Community Action |
| 10 | | Development Corporation and the Illinois Community Action |
| 11 | | Fund; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has dedicated his life to the |
| 13 | | mission, vision, and values of Community Action as prescribed |
| 14 | | by President Lyndon Baines Johnson in his 1964 Declaration of |
| 15 | | the War on Poverty; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has led the fight for social and |
| 17 | | economic justice on behalf of the Illinois Community Action |
| 18 | | Network and all of the individuals and families throughout |
| 19 | | Illinois who find themselves in the predicament of poverty; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has been actively involved in a |
| 21 | | multitude of spheres at the local, State, and national levels |
|

| 1 | | dedicated to the cause of resolving the paradox of poverty in |
| 2 | | the midst of plenty in this great nation; and |
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has worked tirelessly to position the |
| 4 | | Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies as a State |
| 5 | | and national leader, resulting in the organization being a |
| 6 | | leading force in the area of advocacy, training, technical |
| 7 | | assistance and capacity building for the Illinois network of 37 |
| 8 | | Community Action Agencies; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has successfully led advocacy |
| 10 | | efforts for policies that have resulted in innovative programs |
| 11 | | administered by the Illinois Community Action Agencies that |
| 12 | | will continue to transform the lives of many low-income |
| 13 | | individuals and families for generations to come; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has helped to secure millions of |
| 15 | | dollars in corporate, State, and federal funding on behalf of |
| 16 | | the Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies, its |
| 17 | | support organizations, and the Community Action Network in |
| 18 | | order to help advance the cause of social justice for those |
| 19 | | living in poverty; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sulamoyo has led the Illinois Association of |
| 21 | | Community Action Agencies with dedication, passion, |
| 22 | | enthusiasm, and motivation that has resounded with its members, |
|

| 1 | | funders, Board of Directors, staff, and members of this |
| 2 | | political body; therefore, be it
|
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 4 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 5 | | honor Dr. Dalitso Sulamoyo for his 18 years of service to the |
| 6 | | Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies and we wish |
| 7 | | him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to Dr. Sulamoyo as an expression of our esteem and |
| 10 | | respect.
