| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Daniel J. | ||||||
| 4 | Callahan, who passed away on March 27, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan was born in Montgomery to Daniel | ||||||
| 6 | J. Sr. and Evelyn (Yoesle) Callahan on November 24, 1934; he | ||||||
| 7 | was raised in Morris and attended Immaculate Conception School | ||||||
| 8 | and St. Bede Academy; he graduated from Marquette High School | ||||||
| 9 | in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955, | ||||||
| 10 | where he served for four years; he married JoAnn Olson on June | ||||||
| 11 | 28, 1958 and they began their life together in Rapid City, | ||||||
| 12 | South Dakota, before returning to Morris; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan worked for the United States Army | ||||||
| 14 | Corps of Engineers as Lock Master at Dresden Island Lock and | ||||||
| 15 | Dam until his retirement in 1989; he achieved the position of | ||||||
| 16 | Lock Master in 1971 at the age of 36, the youngest Lock Master | ||||||
| 17 | to do so; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan worked for the Grundy County | ||||||
| 19 | Sheriff's office, first as a road deputy; most recently, he | ||||||
| 20 | worked in court security; he was one of the longest-employed | ||||||
| 21 | member of the sheriff's office, serving 43 years when he | ||||||
| 22 | retired in January of 2014; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan served as police commissioner of | ||||||
| 2 | the City of Morris from 1998 to 2017; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan was an avid fisherman; he enjoyed | ||||||
| 4 | woodworking, refinishing antiques, gardening, canning, and | ||||||
| 5 | making preserves; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 7 | parents; his sister, Margaret Jean Callahan; and his brother, | ||||||
| 8 | Charles Eugene Callahan; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Daniel Callahan is survived by his wife, JoAnn; | ||||||
| 10 | his children, Karen Jean (Mike) Doughan, Kevin Michael | ||||||
| 11 | (Colleen) Callahan, and Kenneth James (Pamela) Callahan; his | ||||||
| 12 | granddaughters, Amy (Josh) Clark, Stephanie (Jeffrey) | ||||||
| 13 | Barcelona, and Lindsey Doughan; and his great-granddaughters, | ||||||
| 14 | Callahan Marie and Madeline Louise Clark; and his nephew, | ||||||
| 15 | Michael Callahan; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 17 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 18 | mourn the passing of Daniel J. Callahan, and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 19 | condolences
to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 20 | him; and be it further
