| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Palmalea |
| 4 | | Rennie "Pam" Taylor, who passed away on March 13, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was born in Canton to Roy and |
| 6 | | Mildred Rennie in January of 1927; she graduated from Peoria |
| 7 | | Central High School and Northwestern University; she received |
| 8 | | her degree in nursing
from Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's School |
| 9 | | of Nursing in Chicago; she married
Alan M. Taylor M.D. on |
| 10 | | December 24, 1951; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was an operating room
head nurse |
| 12 | | and supervisor at St. Luke's from 1948 to 1953; she worked for |
| 13 | | many years in the field of medicine, first as a nurse, then |
| 14 | | helping in her husband's
practice; she became the Executive |
| 15 | | Director of the Lake View Memorial Hospital
Foundation in 1978 |
| 16 | | and served until 1990; she was appointed chairman of the |
| 17 | | Illinois Health Facilities Planning
Board in 1979 and worked on |
| 18 | | the board until 2002; one of her proudest accomplishments was |
| 19 | | working with the Lakeview College of Nursing and founding the
|
| 20 | | Lakeview College of Nursing President's Council; she received |
| 21 | | an honorary nursing degree from the Lakeview College of Nursing |
| 22 | | in 1992; and |
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was a
member of the Lt. Governor's |
| 2 | | Council on Rural Health Care from 1988 to 2002, the Vermilion |
| 3 | | County Public
Health Department Board from 1980 to 2001, the |
| 4 | | Vermilion Area Community Health Clinic Free Clinic, the |
| 5 | | Illinois
State Medical Society, and the Vermilion County |
| 6 | | Medical Society Auxiliary; she was instrumental in
bringing |
| 7 | | Aunt Martha's Healthcare Clinic to Danville and served on their |
| 8 | | board of directors for many
years; she was active with St. |
| 9 | | Elizabeth Hospital, the Lakeview Medical Center, and the |
| 10 | | Vermilion County Nursing Home; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor donated her time to the YWCA and |
| 12 | | the Girl Scouts; she served as a 4-H Leader and a Red Cross |
| 13 | | instructor and volunteer; she was on the Salvation Army Board |
| 14 | | of Directors and served as United Fund Area chairman; she also |
| 15 | | served on the Danville Library Foundation; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor received many awards for her work, |
| 17 | | including the Lifetime Achievement Award
for Excellence in |
| 18 | | Governmental Affairs and Legislation 1960-2007 from the |
| 19 | | Illinois State Medical Society; she was nominated for the 1999 |
| 20 | | Belle Chenault Award for Political Participation; she was |
| 21 | | recognized as a charter
member of the Danville Symphony Guild; |
| 22 | | and
|
| 23 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor also volunteered at Kennekuk |
|

| 1 | | Cove, the Arts in the Park, the Palmer Center, the Balloon |
| 2 | | Festival,
and at her church, Frist Presbyterian Church of |
| 3 | | Danville; she was a member of Chapter KE PEO,
the Clover Club, |
| 4 | | and the Danville Country Club; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor enjoyed swimming, driving, golf, |
| 6 | | stitchery, and reading; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor was preceded in death by her |
| 8 | | parents and her husband, Alan; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Palmalea Taylor is survived by her children, |
| 10 | | Elizabeth Taylor, Leslie Phillips, Sarah (Paul) Knobloch, and |
| 11 | | Alan (Marijane) Taylor II M.D.; her grandchildren, Alan |
| 12 | | (Brenna) Knobloch, Alex Knobloch, Trysten (Ryan) Jones, and |
| 13 | | Alan Taylor III; and her great-grandchildren, Caiden, Callen, |
| 14 | | and Charlotte Knobloch; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 16 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 | | mourn the passing of Palmalea Rennie "Pam" Taylor, and extend |
| 18 | | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who |
| 19 | | knew and loved her; and be it further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to the family of Palmalea Taylor as an expression of |
