| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ken Pettijohn on | ||||||
| 4 | his retirement from Community Action after 42 years of service; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn has dedicated his life to fighting | ||||||
| 7 | the war on poverty by creating avenues for low-income people to | ||||||
| 8 | receive assistance on their road to self-sufficiency, and by | ||||||
| 9 | instituting policies at Wabash Area Development, Inc. that | ||||||
| 10 | allow the staff to better assist in achieving those goals; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn has been an advocate for low-income | ||||||
| 12 | people and a voice for the voiceless; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn began his career with Wabash Area | ||||||
| 14 | Development, Inc. as a program planner in 1975; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn worked as a Juvenile Counselor, | ||||||
| 16 | Program Manager, Associate Director of the Comprehensive | ||||||
| 17 | Employment Training Program, and Assistant Director of the Jobs | ||||||
| 18 | Training Program; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Under the direction of Ken Pettijohn, Wabash Area | ||||||
| 20 | Development, Inc. formed a foundation to assist the agency to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | build or purchase office buildings in the organization's
core | ||||||
| 2 | service counties; this action allowed easy access to programs | ||||||
| 3 | like LIHEAP, Weatherization, Head Start, food pantries, CSBG | ||||||
| 4 | scholarships, rental assistance, education assistance, and | ||||||
| 5 | many other services readily available to those individuals and | ||||||
| 6 | families in need; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Ken Pettijohn has a master's degree, has received | ||||||
| 8 | numerous distinguished awards throughout the State and within | ||||||
| 9 | the Community Action world, and has gained the respect of his | ||||||
| 10 | colleagues and communities; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 13 | congratulate Ken Pettijohn on his retirement from Community | ||||||
| 14 | Action after 42 years of service, and wish him health and | ||||||
| 15 | happiness in his retirement years; and be it further | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to Ken Pettijohn as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 18 | respect.
