HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate John Joseph Scherrer of 
4Ridgeway, on the occasion of his 100th birthday on April 25, 
52017; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, John Scherrer was born in Shawneetown on April 25, 
71917 and has been a resident of Gallatin County all of his 
8life; he graduated from the University of Illinois; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, John Scherrer taught agriculture at Shawneetown 
10High School until 1941 when he enlisted in the United States 
11Air Force and participated in raids over Germany during World 
12War II; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, John Scherrer was the co-founder of the implement 
14dealer Ridgeway, Scherrer Equipment, International Tractor; 
15and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, John Scherrer is a member of St. Joseph Catholic 
17Church (now St. Kateri); he is past Belleville Diocesan 
18President of Catholic Men and past president of the Diocesan 
19School Board; he is a past Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, 
20and District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus; he is a past 
21Commander and Adjutant of the Ridgeway American Legion and the

1VFW; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, John Scherrer was married for 64 years to the late 
3Abbie Scherrer; they have four children, Nick, Marie, Anita, 
4and Rita; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
7congratulate John Joseph Scherrer on his 100th birthday, and we 
8wish him many more wonderful years; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to John Scherrer as a symbol of our respect and 
11esteem.
