HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize Scott Sierzega of Brother 
4Rice High School in Chicago on his second place finish at the 
52017 Illinois High School Association Class 2A State 
6Championship in wrestling; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Scott Sierzega compiled a season record of 39 wins 
8and four losses as he advanced to the State Championship match 
9in the 220 pound division - a monumental feat for someone who 
10had never so much as won a conference title before; despite his 
11perseverance, he fell 1 to 0 in the championship match on 
12February 18, 2017; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Scott Sierzega credits his success during the 
142016-2017 season to the power of friendship; his best friend, 
15Jacob Schmitz, passed away from leukemia during the summer of 
162016; he dedicated that upcoming season to his friend and 
17became inspired to try and win a State Championship to honor 
18Jacob; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Scott Sierzega made major lifestyle changes to 
20realize  his goal; he gave up soda, cut back on candy, upped his 
21training regimen, spent more time in the weight room, and 
22became more receptive to his coaches' instructions; and

1    WHEREAS, Scott Sierzega believes that the memory of his 
2friend gave him the inner strength to make it as far as he did; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6recognize Scott Sierzega of Brother Rice High School in Chicago 
7on his second place finish at the 2017 Illinois High School 
8Association Class 2A State Championship in wrestling; and be it 
9further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to Scott Sierzega as an expression of our esteem and 
12respect.
