HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Ina Dews on the occasion 
4of her 80th birthday and recognize her commitment to the Elgin 
5community; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Ina Dews has sacrificed her time, talents, and 
7financial
resources, working to end discriminatory practices 
8in Elgin through her
involvement with the Elgin Human Relations 
9Commission; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Ina Dews continues the legacy of the late
Reverend 
11Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through her leadership and

12participation in coordinating celebratory events honoring Dr. 
13King; she was instrumental in persuading the Elgin City Council 
14to rename Route 20 "Martin Luther King Drive"; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Ina Dews served on the Elgin Human Relations 
16Commission until February of 2010; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Ina Dews has helped others to understand the past, 
18and teach timeless
lessons of courage and endurance through her 
19legacy of community
activism, service and responsibility; she 
20has served as a role model for
younger generations; and

1    WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has proclaimed March 31, 2017 a 
2day of celebration for Ina Dews's 80th birthday; therefore, be 
3it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
6congratulate Ina Dews on her 80th birthday and recognize her 
7commitment to the Elgin community; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Ina Dews as an expression of our esteem and 
10respect.
