| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to remember the life of Miguel Juarez, the |
| 4 | | first Latino Police Chief for the City of Waukegan; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez was born in Ciudad Juarez, |
| 6 | | Chihuahua, Mexico on July 25, 1952; one year later, his family |
| 7 | | immigrated to El Paso, Texas; he became a United States citizen |
| 8 | | and the age of 16 and served in the Marine Corps; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez become a Waukegan police officer on |
| 10 | | November 14, l979; he began as a patrol officer and worked with |
| 11 | | the
SWAT team and detective bureau; he later worked as a |
| 12 | | supervisor and commander of the gang unit, major crimes scene |
| 13 | | unit, and
narcotics unit; he was appointed Deputy Police Chief |
| 14 | | in l993 and served as Deputy Chief of Services and Deputy Chief |
| 15 | | of
Operations for eight years; he was appointed Chief of Police |
| 16 | | in April of 2001; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez was the Waukegan Police |
| 18 | | Department's first Latino Sergeant, its first Latino |
| 19 | | Lieutenant,
its first Latino Deputy Chief, and its first Latino |
| 20 | | Chief of Police; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Miguel Juarez was a member of the Waukegan Unit |
