HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, On March 26, 2010, Marion's Sister City program 
3was established with the signing of an agreement between Marion 
4Mayor Robert L. Butler and Mayor Junichi Yokoe of Kanie, Aichi, 
5Japan; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Representatives from Kanie, including city 
7officials and students, visited Marion in 2010, 2012, and 2013; 
8in 2010, Marion sent adult representatives to Kanie; and
  
 
  
9    WHEREAS, Representatives from Kanie will again visit 
10Marion from March 25 to 29, 2017; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, In July 2017, a contingent of students and adults 
12representing the City of Marion will travel to Kanie to spend a 
13week experiencing the Japanese way of life; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The sister city program encourages an 
15understanding of cultures, enhances the esteem that citizens 
16have for one another, and promotes cooperation in many 
17different fields; therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
19HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
20recognize the sister city relationship between the cities of

1Marion and Kanie, Aichi, Japan, and their continuing efforts to 
2maintain a successful relationship; and be it further
  
 
3    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
4presented to Marion Mayor Robert L. Butler and the 
5representatives from Kanie upon their upcoming visit.
