HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Thomas E. Ryan Jr. on the 
4occasion of his retirement as President of Chicago Firefighters 
5Union Local 2 after nearly a decade of service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Thomas Ryan Jr. has been a Chicago firefighter and 
7member of Local 2 for nearly
32 years, joining in 1985; he is a 
8Certified Fire Investigator; he also has certifications as an  
9Emergency Medical Technician B and Hazardous Materials 
10Technician A; he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2006; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, As President of Local 2, Thomas Ryan Jr. has 
12overseen the creation of programs such as the Local 2 Health 
13Fair, Heart Scan, and the Cancer Dogs; he also served as 
14Vice-President, Steward, and Chairman of numerous committees; 
15and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Local 2 provides Tech A and
B training, EMT P and 
17B refresher courses, and engineer promotional classes;  it helps 
18the  most vulnerable members and their
families through the 
19Employee Assistance Program
and the Retirees Committee; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Local 2 renders financial and spiritual
support  to 
21charities such as the Local 2 Toy Parade, the Widows and

1Orphans
Fund, Chaplains Ministries, the Gold Badge Society, 
2Ignite the Spirit, the 5-11 Club,
the CFFU Burn Foundation, the 
3100 Club of Chicago, the AFFI Warrior Program, MDA,

4Make-A-Wish, the Special Olympics, Autism Speaks, and many 
5others; and
  
6    WHEREAS, Thomas Ryan Jr. and his wife, Lisa, were married 
7in 1991; they have two children, Zachary and Anthony; 
8therefore, be it
  
 

  
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
10HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11congratulate Thomas E. Ryan Jr. on his retirement as President 
12of Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 after nearly a decade of 
13service, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; 
14and be it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to Thomas Ryan Jr. as an expression of our esteem and 
17respect.
