HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas A. 
4Herling, who passed away on December 10, 2016, at the age of 
584; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was the youngest of six children 
7born to the late Arved and Loretta (Morley) Herling; he proudly 
8served in the military during the Korean War; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Thomas Herling spent over 40 years as a fireman 
10for the Chicago Fire Department; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was affectionately known as "Babe" 
12and "The Duke"; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Thomas Herling and
his wife 
14relocated to Naples, Florida, where they enjoyed spending time 
15with
their family and grandchildren; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was an avid fan of the Chicago 
17Cubs, and was
absolutely delighted to see them win the 2016 
18World Series; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Thomas Herling was the beloved husband of 62 years

1of Maureen Ann Herling (Schwind); the devoted
father of Sean 
2(Kathy) Herling, Daniel (Ron) Herling, Margaret "Peggy" 
3(Steve) Janes, Rosanne (Bill)
Laurino, Thomas (Eva) Herling, 
4the late Anthony (Sharon) Herling, and Eileen "Darling" 
5(Darryl)
Corter; the adored Papa of many loving grandchildren 
6and great-grandchildren; and the  fond uncle and
treasured 
7friend to many; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
10mourn the passing of Thomas A. Herling, and extend our sincere 
11condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved 
12him; and be it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to  the family of  Thomas Herling as an expression of 
15our deepest sympathy.
