| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Violence and threats against the Jewish people and | ||||||
| 3 | against individual Jews, based upon their
identified status as | ||||||
| 4 | Jews, led to one of the darkest patterns in human history; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, In recent days, the number and scale of threats | ||||||
| 6 | and violent actions against Jewish people,
offices, entities, | ||||||
| 7 | places of worship, and places of burial, have multiplied within | ||||||
| 8 | the United States; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, These threats and actions have taken various | ||||||
| 10 | forms, including the spray-painting of hostile
graffiti upon | ||||||
| 11 | synagogues, anonymous telephoned bomb threats against Jewish | ||||||
| 12 | child care centers and
community centers, and activities of | ||||||
| 13 | vandals at Jewish cemeteries; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, On Monday, February 27, 2017, the Jewish Community | ||||||
| 15 | Center Association of
North America reported that 31 separate | ||||||
| 16 | bomb threats were called into 23 community centers and
eight | ||||||
| 17 | Jewish day schools throughout the United States; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, In recent news stories, several key synagogues in | ||||||
| 19 | the Chicago area, including synagogues on
Chicago's North Shore | ||||||
| 20 | such as Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah in Wilmette and | ||||||
| 21 | North
Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, have been compelled | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | to take steps to increase security in and around
their places | ||||||
| 2 | of worship; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 4 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 5 | stand with the Jewish residents of Illinois in fervent and | ||||||
| 6 | uncompromising opposition to any form of threats or violence | ||||||
| 7 | against Jewish children, families, people, buildings, | ||||||
| 8 | institutions, places of identity, and places of religious | ||||||
| 9 | observance; and be it further | ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, That we commend the local law enforcement | ||||||
| 11 | agencies with responsibility over those locations
that are | ||||||
| 12 | under actual or potential threat for the increased vigilance | ||||||
| 13 | and security that they are being
called upon to provide; and be | ||||||
| 14 | it further | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That we call upon the federal government of the | ||||||
| 16 | United States, and the State of Illinois, to
increase the | ||||||
| 17 | active enforcement of law enforcement and security policies | ||||||
| 18 | intended to
reduce and eliminate these types of threats; and be | ||||||
| 19 | it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to | ||||||
| 21 | the Governor of Illinois, the Director of the
Illinois State | ||||||
| 22 | Police, and the Director of the Federal Bureau of | ||||||
