| 2 | | WHEREAS, Millions of households in Illinois subscribe to |
| 3 | | services that provide audio and video
entertainment, whether |
| 4 | | through a wire-based cable or through a satellite dish; this |
| 5 | | includes audio streaming, video streaming, and many other |
| 6 | | services; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, One proposal for increasing Illinois tax revenue |
| 8 | | include the levying of a 6.25% State
sales tax on media |
| 9 | | services that includes audio and video streaming; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Illinois should not increase taxes on citizens who |
| 11 | | depend on
cable TV and satellite services for news and |
| 12 | | entertainment; these news programs are vital to a well-informed |
| 13 | | populace; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 15 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 16 | | oppose expanding the State sales tax to cover the delivery of |
| 17 | | audio and video
services, by cable TV, satellite dish, or other |
| 18 | | infrastructure, to Illinois homes and households; and be it |
| 19 | | further

| 20 | | RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to |
| 21 | | the Governor of Illinois, the
President of the Illinois Senate, |
