HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Roger Dean Herrin on the occasion of his retirement from the Southern Illinois University (SIU) Board of Trustees on January 12, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was appointed to the SIU Board of Trustees on April 9, 2011; he served one year as Board Chairman, and most recently served as Chairman of the Finance Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was born on January 30, 1937 in Hardin County; he attended Cave in Rock Grade and High School, where he was the 1955 salutatorian; he earned his Bachelor of Science from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee in 1960 and did graduate work at DePaul University, Roosevelt University, Elmhurst College, and Northwestern University; he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in 1969, where he received the highest, and last, Dr. L.R. McCain Award for outstanding proficiency in surgical anatomy and surgery; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin served as Chairman of the Science Department and head basketball coach at LaGrange High School from 1958 to 1963; he co-authored a textbook with Dr. Glen Seaborg, Head of the Atomic Energy Commission from 1960 to 61; he was one of the original members of the Illinois Health Facilities Authority, where he served as Vice-Chairman; he also served as Chairman of the Underwriters Committee from 1973-79; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin retired from the practice of surgical podiatry and sports medicine in Harrisburg; he served on the staff of the Harrisburg Medical Center and Hardin County General Hospital; he was instrumental in the formation of the Harrisburg Medical Center; he was a past member of the Illinois Health Care Reform Task Force; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin was President of RDK Management Services, Inc. and CombBank, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Herrin has been a guest lecturer at numerous State and national conventions; he is a member of IPS, APA, and numerous other State and national associations; he is a past consultant at Vienna Correctional Center, the U.S. Forestry Service, and the federal prison in Marion; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Roger Dean Herrin on his retirement from the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Herrin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
