HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate St. Joseph High School 
4Head Basketball Coach  Gene Pingatore on becoming the first boys 
5basketball coach in Illinois history to reach 1,000 wins; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Gene Pingatore's historic win came on February 11, 
72016 with a 81-71 win against St. Rita High School in the first 
8round of the Catholic League playoffs in Westchester; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, During Gene Pingatore's 48 years as a head coach 
10at St. Joseph High School, he has achieved a .739 winning 
11percentage and 32 regional championships, 13 sectional 
12championships, six top-four finishes, and two State 
13championships, one in  Class AA in 1999 and one in Class 3A in 
142015; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Gene Pingatore has coached three McDonald's 
16All-Americans, Isiah Thomas, Daryl Thomas, and Deryl 
17Cunningham; and
  
 
  
18    WHEREAS, At the age of 80, Gene Pingatore says he has no 
19plans to retire and will be back coaching for St. Joseph High 
20School next season; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
2HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
3congratulate St. Joseph High School Head Basketball Coach  Gene 
4Pingatore on becoming the first boys basketball coach in 
5Illinois history to reach 1,000 wins, and we wish him many more 
6successful years; and be it further
  
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to Gene Pingatore as an expression of our esteem and 
9respect.
