HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Tom Roate on the occasion of his retirement after 33 years as a firefighter; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roate began his firefighting career as a firefighter in the United States Air Force in December of 1983; he was active duty for seven years, retiring from the Air Guard 183 Fighter Wing, Springfield in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roate was a firefighter for the City of Springfield Fire Department for 22 years; he started on February 28, 1994 and retired on July 1, 2016 as a Battalion Chief; during his time with the Springfield Fire Department, he was an active member of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 37, holding the offices of Trustee, Secretary, and President; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roate is an active retired member of Local 37; since 2006, he has been the Secretary Treasurer of the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois; he is also the Secretary Treasurer of the Federation of State and Provincial Professional Firefighters organization, which is comprised of Presidents and Secretary Treasurers from all 50 states and seven Canadian Provinces; and

WHEREAS, Tom Roate was born in Quincy and raised in Barry; he married Kim in May of 1984, and they have two daughters, Laken (Marc) Smaha, and Colby (Erick) Baumberger; three granddaughters, Aurora, Izabella, and Elliot Colby Baumberger; and a grandson due in February, Aldo; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Tom Roate on his retirement as a firefighter after 33 years of service, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Tom Roate as an expression of our esteem and respect.
