| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Officer |
| 4 | | Raymond Murrell of the Bloomingdale Police Department, who |
| 5 | | passed away on January 19, 2017, at the age of 27; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Officer Murrell was the first Bloomingdale |
| 7 | | officer to die in the line of duty; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, While growing up, Officer Murrell dreamed of |
| 9 | | becoming a police officer; he graduated from
Addison Trail High |
| 10 | | School and received his law enforcement degree from Westwood |
| 11 | | College; he
graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy |
| 12 | | in June of 2016, where he was awarded
the George Graves Award |
| 13 | | for being selected by his fellow
officers in the class as the |
| 14 | | most distinguished recruit; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Officer Murrell lived in Addison and had served on |
| 16 | | the Bloomingdale Police Department
since March of 2016; prior |
| 17 | | to that, he was a corrections officer with the Cook County
|
| 18 | | Sheriff's Department; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In his spare time, Officer Murrell enjoyed |
| 20 | | spending time with his family, especially his niece,
Mia; he |
| 21 | | was devoted to his family, the community, and law enforcement; |
