HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lewis University Airport is a 1,000-acre facility on Renwick Road between Route 53 and Weber Road in Romeoville and is the largest airport in Will County; and

WHEREAS, Lewis University Airport is a national leader in aviation education; it was established in 1932 and is well known and highly regarded; it gives aviation graduates a strong professional network to tap into and a competitive advantage; and

WHEREAS, Lewis University programs are FAA-approved and nationally recognized; Lewis University was recently awarded the Loening Trophy as the outstanding all-around collegiate aviation program in the nation; and

WHEREAS, Lewis University Airport plays a critical role in the region as an economic engine; and

WHEREAS, More than 20 Fortune 500 companies, including Caterpillar, Citgo, Harrah's, ExxonMobil, and NASCAR, own and operate aircraft and have offices or plants located within 30 minutes of the airport; and

WHEREAS, A permanent control tower would make for safer landings at the airport, which has two intersecting runways; it would attract more commercial jets and increase the economic growth in the area; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the United States Congress and President Donald J. Trump to provide federal funding for Lewis University Airport to construct an air traffic control tower, or be added to a federal pilot program allowing an air traffic control program; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
