| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | | WHEREAS, On May 22, 2013, the Chicago Board of Education |
| 3 | | voted to close 50 of the system's underutilized public schools; |
| 4 | | and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Many of those properties can continue to be assets |
| 6 | | for the city and their communities; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, City residents and city leadership have a mutual |
| 8 | | interest in strengthening economic activity and increasing |
| 9 | | economic opportunity for an ever-increasing population; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The Chicago Public Schools Advisory Committee for |
| 11 | | School Repurposing and Community Development has created a set |
| 12 | | of guiding principles and a proposed process for repurposing |
| 13 | | schools into constructive purposes quickly and in a way that is |
| 14 | | both timely and financially viable; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, If these properties cannot be repurposed through |
| 16 | | the Chicago Public School system, they should be opened to |
| 17 | | public bidding; therefore, be it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 19 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 20 | | urge the City of Chicago to begin repurposing the closed public |
