| 2 | | WHEREAS, The cost of prescription drugs has become |
| 3 | | prohibitive for many people in the United States; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, The cost of prescription drugs continues to climb |
| 5 | | in the United States; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, People who cannot afford the high cost of |
| 7 | | prescription drugs may have to make the difficult decision to |
| 8 | | forgo purchasing their medications in order to put food on |
| 9 | | their dinner table or to pay for their housing; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The profits of the pharmaceutical companies |
| 11 | | already measures in the billions and continues to rise; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The federal government has been able to use its |
| 13 | | purchasing power to reduce the price of prescription drugs |
| 14 | | through the Veterans Administration system; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 16 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 17 | | urge the federal government to monitor the ever-increasing |
| 18 | | costs of prescription drugs and to take any necessary action to |
| 19 | | reduce the out-of-pocket expenses for those purchasing |
| 20 | | medications; and be it further
