| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Conrad Worrill on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of his retirement as Director of the Jacob H. | ||||||
| 5 | Carruthers Center for Inner City
Studies on the Northeastern | ||||||
| 6 | Illinois University campus after 12 years of service; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill has served as a professor at the | ||||||
| 8 | Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education, and as Department Chair | ||||||
| 9 | and
Academic Program Coordinator for the Inner City Studies | ||||||
| 10 | program; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Dr. Worrill has advanced | ||||||
| 12 | causes such as educational restructuring, human rights,
| ||||||
| 13 | reparations, and political and economic empowerment for the | ||||||
| 14 | black community; his activism is defined
by his leadership in | ||||||
| 15 | organizations and his activities at the forefront of social and | ||||||
| 16 | racial justice, African-centered
education, African | ||||||
| 17 | liberation, and self-determination for people of African | ||||||
| 18 | descent; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill has been an active participant in the | ||||||
| 20 | Black Power, civil rights, and human rights movements; he was | ||||||
| 21 | the special consultant for field operations for the historic | ||||||
| 22 | Million Man March and was a street
organizer for Harold | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Washington's mayoral campaign; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill served as Chairman, and now Chairman | ||||||
| 3 | Emeritus, of the National Black United Front; he is a board | ||||||
| 4 | member
of the Black United Fund of Illinois; he is a lifetime | ||||||
| 5 | member of the National Coalition of Blacks for
Reparations in | ||||||
| 6 | America, and a member of the Kemetic Institute, the Association | ||||||
| 7 | for the Study of Classical African
Civilizations, and the | ||||||
| 8 | Association of African Historians; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Worrill earned a bachelor's degree from George | ||||||
| 10 | Williams College, a master's degree from the University of
| ||||||
| 11 | Chicago, and a doctoral degree from the University of | ||||||
| 12 | Wisconsin; his major field of study was black
political and | ||||||
| 13 | movement history, social theory, and curriculum and | ||||||
| 14 | instruction; after his retirement, he
will continue to write, | ||||||
| 15 | lecture, and consult on issues that challenge the African | ||||||
| 16 | world; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 19 | congratulate Dr. Conrad Worrill on his retirement as Director | ||||||
| 20 | of the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City
Studies, and | ||||||
| 21 | we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
| 22 | further
