HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the Illinois State Police Department on the occasion of its 95th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police Department was formed on April 1, 1922 under the direction of Superintendent John T. Stack; its motto is, "Integrity, Service, and Pride"; and

WHEREAS, The goals of the Illinois State Police are to improve the quality of life for citizens through unimpeachable integrity, public service, and training and education, to safeguard the public by assisting law enforcement, decreasing traffic fatalities and injuries, and reducing crime and the fear of crime, and to provide leadership through innovation as a dynamic, diverse, learning organization which promotes personal and professional growth; and

WHEREAS, As of 2017, more than 60 state troopers have paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in service to the State and its citizens; and

WHEREAS, Today, the Illinois State Police Department has 21 patrol districts, seven investigative zones, six operational forensic science laboratories, and five regional crime scene services commands; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police are currently helmed by Director Leo P. Schmitz; the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation's Memorial Park will soon be constructed in downtown Springfield; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Illinois State Police Department on its 95th anniversary, thank them for their service, and wish them many more successful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Illinois State Police, the Illinois State Police Merit Board, and the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation.
