1    AN ACT concerning safety.
  
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
 
3represented in the General Assembly:
  


 
4    Section 5. The University of Illinois Scientific Surveys 
5Act is amended  by adding Section 21 as follows:
 
6    (110 ILCS 425/21 new)
7    Sec. 21. Contaminant of emerging concern report.
8    (a) As soon as practicable after the effective date of this 
9amendatory Act of the 100th General Assembly, the Prairie 
10Research Institute shall conduct a detailed review of the 
11available scientific literature and federal and State laws, 
12regulations, and rules to identify:
13        (1) any chemical that is commonly found in wastewater 
14    treatment plant effluent and that has been recognized as a 
15    contaminant of emerging concern by the United States 
16    Environmental Protection Agency, another federal agency, 
17    or any State agency; and
18        (2) the specific actions recommended by the United 
19    States Environmental Protection Agency, another federal 
20    agency, or any State agency to address the environmental or 
21    public health concerns associated with the chemical.
22    (b) By June 30, 2020, the Prairie Research Institute shall 
23submit to the General Assembly a report of its findings that

1shall include a list of the chemicals and specific actions 
2identified under subsection (a) of this Section. The report to 
3the General Assembly shall be filed with the Clerk of the House 
4of Representatives and the Secretary of the Senate in 
5electronic form only, in the manner that the Clerk and the 
6Secretary shall direct.
7    (c) This Section is repealed on July 1, 2021. 
 

8    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
9becoming law.
