| 3 | | on page 1, line 5, by changing "Section 55" to "Sections 55 and |

| 5 | | on page 2, immediately below line 8, by inserting the |
| 6 | | following:

| 8 | | Sec. 60.
Grants for dependents of Department of Corrections |
| 9 | | employees who are killed
or who become a person with a |
| 10 | | permanent disability in the line of duty. Any spouse, natural |
| 11 | | child, legally
adopted child, or child in the legal custody of |
| 12 | | an employee of the Department
of Corrections who is assigned to |
| 13 | | a security position with the Department with
responsibility for |
| 14 | | inmates of any correctional institution under the
jurisdiction |
| 15 | | of the Department and who is killed or who becomes a person |

| 1 | | with a permanent disability with
90% to 100% disability in the |
| 2 | | line of duty is entitled to 8 semesters or 12
quarters of full |
| 3 | | payment of tuition and mandatory fees at any State-supported
|
| 4 | | Illinois institution of higher learning for either full or |
| 5 | | part-time study, or
the equivalent of 8 semesters or 12 |
| 6 | | quarters of payment of tuition and
mandatory fees at the rate
|
| 7 | | established by the Commission for private institutions in the |
| 8 | | State of
Illinois, provided the recipient is maintaining |
| 9 | | satisfactory academic
progress. This benefit may be used for |
| 10 | | undergraduate or graduate study.
Beneficiaries need not be |
| 11 | | Illinois residents at the time of enrollment in order
to |
| 12 | | receive this grant. With respect to disabled employees of the |
| 13 | | Department of Corrections, natural children need not be born |
| 14 | | before the disability occurred in order to receive this grant. |
| 15 | | The benefits of this Section shall be administered by
and paid |
| 16 | | out of funds available to the Commission and shall accrue to |
| 17 | | the bona
fide applicant without the requirement of |
| 18 | | demonstrating financial need to
qualify for those benefits.
