| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and |
| 5 | | Duties Law of the
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is |
| 6 | | amended by adding Section 2310-22 as follows:

| 8 | | Sec. 2310-22. Tracking food deserts. The Department, in |
| 9 | | cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, shall notify |
| 10 | | respective municipal governmental bodies identified as food |
| 11 | | deserts and provide an annual report to the General Assembly by |
| 12 | | December 31 of each year that identifies the locations of food |
| 13 | | deserts within the State and provides information about health |
| 14 | | issues associated with food deserts. If the annual report |
| 15 | | contains information from the federal government that |
| 16 | | identifies the locations of food deserts in the State and |
| 17 | | provides information on health issues associated with food |
| 18 | | deserts, then the requirements of this Section shall be |
| 19 | | satisfied. For the purposes of this Section, "food desert" |
| 20 | | means a location vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other |
| 21 | | healthful whole foods, in part due to a lack of grocery stores, |
| 22 | | farmers' markets, or healthy food providers. |
