| 2 | | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2987 by replacing |
| 3 | | everything after the enacting clause with the following:
|
| 4 | | "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the State |
| 5 | | Agency Student Worker Opportunity Act. |
| 6 | | Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act: |
| 7 | | "Formerly incarcerated youth" means an individual who has |
| 8 | | been sentenced to incarceration in, or the custody of, the |
| 9 | | Division of Adult Operations in the Department of Corrections |
| 10 | | and Rehabilitation, the Division of Juvenile Justice in the |
| 11 | | Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, or county jail |
| 12 | | and released from that incarceration or custody before the |
| 13 | | individual attained 21 years of age. |
| 14 | | "Homeless youth" means an applicant up to 21 years of age, |
| 15 | | who has been verified as a homeless child or youth, as defined |
| 16 | | under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. |

| 1 | | "Qualified applicant" means an individual who: (1) is 21 |
| 2 | | years of age or younger; (2) is qualified for the internship or |
| 3 | | student worker position; and (3) is or has been a dependent |
| 4 | | child in foster care, a homeless youth, or a formerly |
| 5 | | incarcerated youth. |
| 6 | | "State agency" means all boards,
commissions, agencies, |
| 7 | | institutions, authorities, bodies politic and corporate
of the |
| 8 | | State created by or pursuant to the constitution or statute, of |
| 9 | | the
executive branch of State government. |
| 10 | | Section 10. Internships and student workers; transmit |
| 11 | | information. |
| 12 | | (a) Whenever a State agency has a job opening for an intern |
| 13 | | or a student worker, that State agency shall notify the |
| 14 | | Department of Human Services, the Department of Juvenile |
| 15 | | Justice, and the Department of Children and Family Services. |
| 16 | | The Department of Human Services, the Department of Juvenile |
| 17 | | Justice, and the Department of Children and Family Services |
| 18 | | shall take steps to notify qualified applicants of the job |
| 19 | | opening. |
| 20 | | (b) Each State agency shall keep records detailing the |
| 21 | | number of applications for internships and student worker |
| 22 | | positions received from the Department of Human Services, the |
| 23 | | Department of Juvenile Justice, and the Department of Children |
| 24 | | and Family Services as a result of the communication under |
| 25 | | subsection (a).".
