| 1 | | AN ACT concerning animals.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Police |
| 5 | | Service Dog Protection Act. |
| 6 | | Section 5. Definitions. In this Act: |
| 7 | | "Law enforcement agency" means a county, municipal, or |
| 8 | | State law enforcement agency. |
| 9 | | "Police dog" has the same meaning ascribed to the term in |
| 10 | | subsection (e) of Section 3.55 of the Emergency Medical |
| 11 | | Services (EMS) Systems Act. |
| 12 | | Section 10. Medical care. (a) The law enforcement |
| 13 | | agency, or handler of the police dog shall be required to have |
| 14 | | every police dog receive, at minimum, an annual medical |
| 15 | | examination by a licensed veterinarian. |
| 16 | | (b) Prior to beginning service as a police dog, the |
| 17 | | employing law enforcement agency shall require the dog be |
| 18 | | vaccinated against rabies as required under Section 8 of the |
| 19 | | Animal Control Act. |
| 20 | | Section 15. Vehicles transporting police dogs; |
| 21 | | requirements.
