| 2 | | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 107 by replacing |
| 3 | | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

| 4 | | "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing |
| 5 | | Sections 4-50, 5-50, and 6-100 and by adding Section 1-12.5 as |
| 6 | | follows:
|
| 7 | | (10 ILCS 5/1-12.5 new) |
| 8 | | Sec. 1-12.5. Same-day registration. |
| 9 | | (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the |
| 10 | | contrary, the number of same-day voter registration sites that |
| 11 | | each election authority shall establish is governed only by |
| 12 | | this Section. For the purpose of establishing same-day voter |
| 13 | | registration sites, election authorities shall be classified |
| 14 | | as follows: |
| 15 | | (1) election authorities operating in counties |
| 16 | | organized by township, including, but not limited to, |

| 1 | | election authorities operating in Cook County, but |
| 2 | | excluding the Board of Election Commissioners for the City |
| 3 | | of Chicago; |
| 4 | | (2) election authorities operating in counties |
| 5 | | organized by precinct; and |
| 6 | | (3) the Board of Election Commissioners for the City of |
| 7 | | Chicago. |
| 8 | | (b) Each election authority classified under paragraph (1) |
| 9 | | of subsection (a) of this Section shall operate one same-day |
| 10 | | voter registration site within each township under the |
| 11 | | jurisdiction of the election authority. Each election |
| 12 | | authority classified under paragraph (2) of subsection (a) of |
| 13 | | this Section shall operate one same-day voter registration site |
| 14 | | within each precinct under the jurisdiction of the election |
| 15 | | authority. The Board of Election Commissioners for the City of |
| 16 | | Chicago shall operate one same-day voter registration site |
| 17 | | within each former township located within the City of Chicago, |
| 18 | | as those townships existed immediately prior to the date those |
| 19 | | townships were eliminated within the City of Chicago. In the |
| 20 | | case of a township, precinct, or former township that contains |
| 21 | | the office of the election authority, the office of the |
| 22 | | election authority shall serve as the same-day voter |
| 23 | | registration site for that township, precinct, or former |
| 24 | | township.".
