    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
 
    Section 5. The State Fire Marshal Act is amended by
changing Section 5 as follows:

    Sec. 5. Tracking firefighter mortality. Beginning no later
than 6 months after January 1, 2026 (the effective date of
Public Act 104-102) this amendatory Act of the 104th General
Assembly, all fire departments and units of local government
that provide fire protection services in this State shall
report the death of any firefighter employed by the fire
department or unit of local government to the Office of the
State Fire Marshal. The information reported to the Office
shall include the cause and manner of death, including, but
not limited to, any deaths resulting from suicide and the
various types of cancer. If a firefighter separates from a
fire department or unit of local government with a known
cancer diagnosis and succumbs to that cancer within 12 months
after separation, the fire department or unit of local
government shall report the death to the Office. The the
Office of the State Fire Marshal shall receive, track, and
record all reported firefighter deaths, including the cause
and the manner of death, as reported under this Section for all
firefighters in Illinois, including suicide and the various
types of cancer. The Office shall publish an annual report
concerning the information reported under this Section and
shall make the report available to the public no later than 90
days after the end of each calendar year.

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
becoming law.
