AN ACT concerning education.
|
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
represented in the General Assembly:
|
Section 1. This Act may be referred to as the Reverend |
Jesse Jackson, Sr. Young Voter Empowerment Law.
|
Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
10-20.88 and 34-18.88 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/10-20.88 new) |
Sec. 10-20.88. High school voter registration. Beginning |
with the 2026-2027 school year, a school district maintaining |
any of grades 9 through 12 shall provide all eligible students |
graduating from high school with the opportunity to register |
to vote.

(105 ILCS 5/34-18.88 new) |
Sec. 34-18.88. High school voter registration. Beginning |
with the 2026-2027 school year, the school district shall |
provide all eligible students graduating from high school with |
the opportunity to register to vote.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
becoming law. |
