| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Lois Callahan on her | ||||||
| 4 | election to the office of National President of the Veterans | ||||||
| 5 | of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) Auxiliary, serving | ||||||
| 6 | from 2025-2026; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Established in 1914, members of the VFW Auxiliary | ||||||
| 8 | wanted to serve the veterans of this country and our | ||||||
| 9 | communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every | ||||||
| 10 | man and woman who has served in uniform; the organization is | ||||||
| 11 | one of the nation's oldest veterans' service organizations and | ||||||
| 12 | its members are the relatives of those who served in a location | ||||||
| 13 | of foreign conflict; nearly 470,000 members in more than 3,500 | ||||||
| 14 | Auxiliaries nationwide, plus three foreign-based Auxiliaries, | ||||||
| 15 | volunteer millions of hours and fundraise millions of dollars | ||||||
| 16 | for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military | ||||||
| 17 | service personnel, and their families; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Lois Callahan has served the VFW Auxiliary since | ||||||
| 19 | 1990 as District and Department President, National Youth | ||||||
| 20 | Activities Ambassador, and National Legislative Ambassador; | ||||||
| 21 | and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Lois Callahan was also elected to the office of | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | National Guard of the VFW Auxiliary, serving from 2021-2022; | ||||||
| 2 | and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Lois Callahan originally joined the VFW Auxiliary | ||||||
| 4 | on behalf of her father, Ruben Tamariz, who served in the U.S. | ||||||
| 5 | Army, both in Korea and Vietnam; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, VFW Auxiliary National President Lois Callahan is | ||||||
| 7 | a Life Member of Jack E. Smoot/Ralph G. King VFW Auxiliary | ||||||
| 8 | 2278; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Lois Callahan has dedicated her life to the | ||||||
| 10 | values and goals of the VFW, including through supporting | ||||||
| 11 | veterans and their families, providing scholarships to | ||||||
| 12 | students nationwide, advocating for veteran-centered | ||||||
| 13 | legislation, and assisting veterans through the VA; therefore, | ||||||
| 14 | be it | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we congratulate Lois Callahan on her election to the office of | ||||||
| 18 | National President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the | ||||||
| 19 | United States (VFW) Auxiliary, serving from 2025-2026; and be | ||||||
| 20 | it further | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
