HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, A federal government shutdown disrupts pay for federal employees and contractors, delays critical services, pauses new grants and loans, and creates avoidable uncertainty for families, small businesses, hospitals, universities, and local governments; and

WHEREAS, Illinois taxpayers contribute substantial revenues to the federal government and expect reliable, on-time federal operations that keep commerce, infrastructure, research, safety, and disaster response running; and

WHEREAS, A shutdown strains aviation safety and reliability at major hubs such as O'Hare and Midway, slows federal approvals that underpin infrastructure and housing projects, and injects uncertainty into nutrition, health, and veteran services; and

WHEREAS, The General Assembly has a strong record of bipartisan collaboration, including on balanced budgets, infrastructure, public safety, disaster response, and economic development, demonstrating that pragmatic cooperation delivers better outcomes than brinkmanship; and

WHEREAS, Illinois families, workers, and employers benefit when their elected officials work across party lines to keep government open and focused on results rather than rhetoric; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we affirm a simple principle: no one wins when the federal government shuts down; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge the Congress of the United States to maintain continuous federal operations through timely appropriations or continuing resolutions, to reject shutdowns as a negotiating tactic, and to provide predictable funding that protects families, workers, and the broader economy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we reaffirm our bipartisan commitment to stability and problem-solving and stand ready to work with Illinois's Congressional Delegation, Democrats and Republicans alike, to keep government functioning and focused on the people we serve; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the President of the United States, the Majority and Minority Leaders of the United States Senate, the Speaker and Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives, and every member of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
