| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Aurora Actionaires on 50 | ||||||
| 4 | years of service to the Aurora community; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires was founded in 1975 by Donna | ||||||
| 6 | J. Williams, Martha M. Hickling, and Caroline Johnson with the | ||||||
| 7 | thought of organizing a social club; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires began placing an emphasis on | ||||||
| 9 | service rather than social activities as the club progressed | ||||||
| 10 | and is now composed of 20 African American women who support | ||||||
| 11 | other like-minded organizations and volunteer to serve at | ||||||
| 12 | various community events; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires has assisted the elderly, the | ||||||
| 14 | needy, provided more than $200,000 in college scholarships to | ||||||
| 15 | typically underserved Aurora high school graduates, and | ||||||
| 16 | sponsored and maintained three Little Libraries; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires' projects have included Sickle | ||||||
| 18 | Cell Tag Days, purchasing equipment for special needs | ||||||
| 19 | students, sponsoring workshops for parents and students on how | ||||||
| 20 | to complete scholarship applications and the FAFSA (Free | ||||||
| 21 | Application for Federal Student Aid), and sponsoring girl | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | mentoring outings to events such as the Little Mermaid movie | ||||||
| 2 | and spring etiquette teas; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires provided masks to residents of | ||||||
| 4 | the Aurora Housing Authority and hand sanitizer, gloves, and | ||||||
| 5 | socks to residents of nursing homes during the Covid-19 | ||||||
| 6 | pandemic; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires established The Aurora | ||||||
| 8 | Actionaires Foundation, Inc. in 2015, a recognized 501(c)(3) | ||||||
| 9 | non-profit that is now the charitable arm of the organization; | ||||||
| 10 | and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Aurora Actionaires' motto since its inception is | ||||||
| 12 | "We Care. We Act. We Serve."; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Aurora Actionaires on 50 years of service to | ||||||
| 16 | the Aurora community; and be it further | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to Aurora Actionaires as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 19 | esteem. | ||||||
