| 1 | SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, It is important and appropriate to honor the men | ||||||
| 3 | and women of the Illinois State Police Division of Patrol for | ||||||
| 4 | their contributions to improving public safety; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Trooper Frank R. Dunbar joined the Illinois State | ||||||
| 6 | Police on October 28, 1957, and he was assigned to District 13 | ||||||
| 7 | in DuQuoin; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was killed in an automobile | ||||||
| 9 | accident while patrolling Route 37, north of Benton, on May | ||||||
| 10 | 14, 1972; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was the first state trooper in 26 | ||||||
| 12 | years to be killed in the line of duty and the first to be | ||||||
| 13 | killed in a patrol car accident in Southern Illinois; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar's service to and sacrifice for the | ||||||
| 15 | people of Illinois should never be forgotten; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF | ||||||
| 18 | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois | ||||||
| 19 | Route 37 north of the City of Benton and south of Lake Benton | ||||||
| 20 | Road as the "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial Highway"; and be | ||||||

| 1 | it further | ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
| 3 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
| 4 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
| 5 | giving notice of the name "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial | ||||||
| 6 | Highway"; and be it further | ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 8 | presented to the family of Trooper Dunbar and the Secretary of | ||||||
| 9 | the Illinois Department of Transportation. | ||||||
