SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Scarring alopecia, also known as cicatricial alopecia, refers to a group of rare disorders that destroys hair follicles, replaces them with scar tissue, and causes permanent hair loss; and

WHEREAS, Scarring alopecia can affect individuals of all ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds, and it can have profound physical, emotional, and psychological impacts on those affected; and

WHEREAS, Early diagnosis and appropriate medical intervention are critical to slowing the progression of scarring alopecia and preserving existing hair and scalp health; and

WHEREAS, Public awareness about scarring alopecia remains low, often resulting in delayed diagnoses, limited access to specialized care, and a lack of understanding about the experiences of those living with the condition; and

WHEREAS, Organizations, healthcare providers, researchers, and patient advocates are working diligently to promote awareness, advance research, support affected individuals, and improve treatments and outcomes for those living with scarring alopecia; and

WHEREAS, Designating September as Scarring Alopecia Awareness Month will help educate the public, support affected individuals, and encourage further research into effective treatments and a potential cure; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare September 2025 as Scarring Alopecia Awareness Month in the State of Illinois to help bring attention to and educate the public on scarring alopecia.
