| 1 | SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Illinois is the fourth largest pork producing | ||||||
| 3 | state in the United States, contributing an estimated $13.8 | ||||||
| 4 | billion to the State's economy and supporting over 57,000 | ||||||
| 5 | jobs; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Pork is the most widely eaten protein in the | ||||||
| 7 | world, and consumers have a variety of delicious cuts as | ||||||
| 8 | choices, including bacon; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Illinois pig farmers produce over six billion | ||||||
| 10 | slices of bacon per year, and the average American eats 18 lbs. | ||||||
| 11 | of bacon per year; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The hardworking pig farmers who raise this | ||||||
| 13 | high-quality product deserve our support; whether plain or | ||||||
| 14 | apple-wood smoked, store-bought or artisan-made, bacon is a | ||||||
| 15 | meat for any meal; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The phrase "Bacon Never Broke My Heart" goes | ||||||
| 17 | without saying; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, National Bacon Day is celebrated in December, but | ||||||
| 19 | Illinois needs its own day to pay tribute to this decadent, | ||||||
| 20 | rich, and indulgent meat; therefore, be it | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF | ||||||
| 3 | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare May 7, 2025 | ||||||
| 4 | as Illinois Bacon Day and invite all Illinoisans to thank a pig | ||||||
| 5 | farmer by enjoying some delicious slices of bacon; and be it | ||||||
| 6 | further | ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 8 | presented to the Illinois Pork Producers Association as a | ||||||
| 9 | symbol of our respect and esteem. | ||||||
